EDITORIAL ADULT FAMILY SESSION AT COYOTE HILLS REGIONAL PARK | LAI FAMILY

Occasionally I get the honor of shooting an adult family, and I absolutely love it. Family photos are so often geared around young children, but it’s so special to be able to capture your family together with older parents and adult children. Vanessa reached out about wanting to take photos with her adult family when everyone was going to be back home at the same time.

As a creative herself, Vanessa had a vision: she did not want cheesy, traditional family photos (think 90s photos of families all in denim and white t-shirts at the beach or around the fireplace). Instead, she wanted a more editorial and curated vibe. We brainstormed and scouted locations together, landing on Coyote Hills Regional Park in the greater Bay Area for its tall grasses (and midway ish point between her family in San Jose and me up in Oakland). We got super lucky with perfect weather and gorgeous light, and had fun playing with the tall grasses as a background. We had a bit of a hard time wrangling her family into Vanessa’s editorial vision—too much love and laughter among everyone. But we still got her shots. We ended the session with a traditional card game Vanessa wanted to learn from her parents and aunt.
